A “Work In Progress” poetic update
About this blog’s artwork
I’ve been reminded recently, by my sweet friend and coach Inês Merino, of something important:
When you do your own work and search for your own voice, you get to experiment freely, try different sorts of things, and see what works best for you, since it might be something in the making that has never been done before.
You never know where your creative path will lead you.
This to say, this blog post is written in a different way than the others I have written so far. It is a Work In Progress, as there are already valuable thoughts emerging from it that I wish to share with you.
The plan is for me to finish a Blog post + Artwork related to a theme as usual, but this time the Artwork will be animated.
What started as something I thought would be done quickly has revealed itself challenging and demanding. A gentle reminder that good things take time.
This is where the journey took me so far: a reel and a poem. Feel free to check the full reel on my Instagram and/or read the poem below as well.
A lesson on grooming
We think of great work as those moments
when inspiration suddenly strikes
Where we let ourselves go,
hands fly through the page,
something emerges quickly.
But sometimes it asks of you to slow down,
to see and to feel the edge of challenge
where growth occurs.
Sometimes it isn’t about the second or the third time that you put yourself out there
when you’re starting to believe you're in charge
and in flow,
but on the fourth or fifth time.
When it throws you out a bit,
it asks of you to face the edges
that you normally cover from embarrassment.
Because you want good art and you want it faster.
You’re there for the highs but not the “disasters”.
Sometimes you need to be reminded that
your worth already happens behind the curtain…
Before the world sees you and gets to know you…
You're already all right, enough.
It’s natural that when you slightly step out
of your comfort zone,
you are shown and reminded
of how out of practice and a beginner you get to be.
Again and again.
But the beauty is,
that the more you face it,
the more often you’ll get to feel in comfort.
You’ll get used to the not knowing,
and reminding yourself of the time
you didn’t do it because you knew it,
but because you longed for the play.
Play is all that brought us here,
that started it one day.
Embrace the play.
You know unconsciously
that it’s okay if your hands get dirty,
if you lose track of time,
if you can’t manage much in a day.
You always get to do it tomorrow again.
There is never true failure,
there is only the next opportunity
for another day.
A gentle reminder that
you can also take your time.
Don’t collect the flowers
before they have a chance to grow and bloom.
Patiently plant the seeds of ideas, let them sink in, groom them.
Lastly…
Thank you for your time and read, feel free to share any constructive feedback or send any questions on topics you would like me to write/draw about :)
Stay safe and inspired,
Rita
